Orientation and Student Convocation

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, The Great Commission College (TGCC) held its first orientation session and inaugural student convocation in the historic city of Paterson, NJ.

The event began with prayers led by Pastor Miqueas Nieves, Chair of the TGCC Board of Trustees, who was introduced by Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla.

“Please stand up. Glory to God! Father, we come before your presence in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing my King that we are on this walk, this journey, preparing workers for your glory. Lord, may your blessing and the anointing of your Holy Spirit be upon this school, these classes, these teachers, my King, these students my King, preparing them my King, equipping them, Lord, to do a work of excellence in the Kingdom of God. We ask You, Lord, that You continue to use Dr. María Teresa and Dr. Néstor Montilla in this work that they perform, Lord. In the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we speak your blessing to enlarge, to grow my King, not only hearts, but your work throughout the world, Lord. In the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we ask these things of you. Amen.”

Rocio Burgos, the TGCC Student Representative, then led a heartfelt prayer on behalf of all students, fostering unity within the student body.

TGCC President Nestor Montilla, PhD, shared reflections based on Philippians 4:6-7, which states: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Faculty members in attendance, included Bishop Alejandro Benjamin, Dr. Ithiel Torres, Minister Katherine Rodriguez, and Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla. They provided students with valuable information regarding the courses to be offered during the fall 2025 semester, expectations, and other academic matters.

The Great Commission College (GCC) is an undergraduate Christ-centered 501 (c)3 non-profit private higher learning institution with the mission to train and transform lives while edifying the Body of Christ. The governance of TGCC is under the purview of a duly constituted Board of Trustees comprised of secular and non-secular professionals, including educators, christian leaders, students, higher education administrators, and educational leaders. 

TGCC offers non-college-bearing credit courses and programs of the highest quality. We are currently in the process of applying for the required degree licensure from the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education (OSHE) in the state of New Jersey to offer credit-bearing courses and academic degree programs, ensuring our students receive a high quality and reputable education.

TGCC meets Title 18A the New Jersey Statute which allows seminaries to grant divinity or theology degrees independently. TGCC operates under New Jersey Statute Section 18A:68-2, granting exemptions and rights to Seminaries or Schools of Theology to confer ecclesiastical or religious degrees in the following categories: Associate of Theology, Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Theology.

El sábado 6 de septiembre de 2025, The Great Commission College (TGCC) celebró su primera sesión de orientación y convocatoria estudiantil inaugural en la histórica ciudad de Paterson, Nueva Jersey.

El evento comenzó con oraciones dirigidas por el Pastor Miqueas Nieves, presidente de la Junta Directiva de TGCC, quien fue presentado por la Dra. María Teresa Montilla.

“Vamos a estar de pie. ¡Gloria de Dios! Padre, venimos ante tu presencia en el poderoso nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, sabiendo mi Rey que estamos en este camino, en este viaje, preparando a los obreros para tu trabajo. Señor, que tu bendición y la unción de tu Espíritu Santo sean sobre esta escuela, estas clases, estos maestros, mi Rey, estos estudiantes mi Rey, preparándolos mi Rey, equipándolos, Señor, para hacer una obra de excelencia en el Reino de Dios. Te pedimos, Señor, que sigas usando a la Dra. María Teresa y al Dr. Néstor Montilla en esta obra que realizan, Señor. En el poderoso nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, pronunciamos tu bendición para engrandecer, para hacer crecer a mi Rey, no solo los corazones, sino tu obra en todo el mundo, Señor. En el poderoso nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, te pedimos estas cosas. Amén”. 

Rocío Burgos, la Representante Estudiantil de TGCC, dirigió una sentida oración en nombre de todos los estudiantes, fomentando la unidad dentro del cuerpo estudiantil.

El presidente de TGCC, Néstor Montilla, PhD, compartió reflexiones basadas en Filipenses 4: 6-7, que dice: “No se preocupen por nada, sino en toda situación, con oración y súplica, con acción de gracias, presenten sus peticiones a Dios. Y la paz de Dios, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guardará vuestros corazones y vuestros pensamientos en Cristo Jesús”.

Los miembros de la facultad que asistieron, incluidos el obispo Alejandro Benjamín, el Dr. Ithiel Torres, la ministra Katherine Rodríguez y la Dra. María Teresa Montilla, estuvieron presentes para guiar y apoyar a los estudiantes. Proporcionaron información valiosa sobre los cursos que se ofrecerán durante el semestre de otoño de 2025, expectativas, y otros asuntos académicos.
